Happy birthday, open source!

Mozilla turned 10 in January. Creative Commons turned five back in December. Now “open souce” is hitting one of those nice round numbers. Tomorrow marks five years since Bruce Perens published the Open Source Definition.

DJ Spooky the Subliminal Kid

If you haven’t heard of this guy, you should check him out. Artist, thinker, DJ, movie maker, teacher. Friend of open source, friend of freedom and intellectual property rights. Friend of Cory. And if you’re in the central NC area, you should change your Saturday night plans. ‘Cause he’s in town, and he’s got a new film to premiere. You know we’ll be there. (And Spooky fans? Check back with us soon–we just might have some things to show you…)

113 Fedora games

Remember our post about a few Fedora games? That was a year ago, so surely you need more now. This list of 113 should last you a few days. Let us know which is your favorite. W

One we’re ready to try that’s not on the list is Frets on Fire, a Guitar Hero clone. And if you already have Guitar Hero, you can import the songs from it. Or, if you’re feeling guitar-ed out and pine for the simpler days of good old-fashioned firepower in Scorched Earth, grab the rpm of Scorched 3D.

Remix of the week

From the “absolutely unrelated to anything, but it’s Friday, so we’re here to amuse you” category… You know that exploding whale video that makes its way around the web from time to time? We discovered this week that it has its own web site, complete with variations on the original video–like an animated version. Watch out for falling whale steaks this weekend.
