I have a daughter in 8th grade here in Wake county, who now uses Adobe and Flash, with a Wacom Intuos 3 pen tablet. She draws and animates almost every second that she is not doing homework! I am not a teacher, or even an artist, but the Red Hat High seems like a great match for her. Are you having it this summer?(2008) Please let me know.

Has there been any follow up with students from last year? It would be interesting to see how many of them are still using the free tools they were introduced to last year.

About the Computer Clubhouse Network.....
Greg have you had any discussion's with them? The website describes a suite of software tools provided by the network with a heavy emphasis on Adobe products, and Adobe is listed as a major partner. Is the CCN interested in including open tools or is there a possible conflict here with Adobe's on-going sponsorship of the program?

Nicu: it's true, a public gallery of all of the kids' work would be great incentive. But with kids, there can be issues with permissions, so we want to be careful. It may be worth making sure that there's a waiver allowing for public distribution of all works created at Red Hat High, something we did *not* do this time around, but doubtless should have.

Don't you think a public gallery with all the content created at RHH can work as a moral reward for the kids?

How about providing the produced content at some point to OLPC, so OLPC get some free multimedia stuff?

And maybe on a crack note, how about putting some multimedia stuff from RHH in the default install of the Fedora Desktop to show the naysayers Fedora is an capable multimedia OS...

Back to work indeed!

One point of note: Cody actually created his entire animation on his own. We Blender instructors did give all of the students tutorials on modeling a dog and a dog house (which the students created their own versions from).

And when it came to animation, the students had the option of either using some pre-rigged characters or taking on the more complex challenge of building and rigging a character of their own to animate. Cody was one of the students in the latter category, with everything in his scene built from scratch by his own hand.

It was great working with all of these students and they should definitely be applauded for their incredible work.
