Why do the ext3 filesystems on my Storage Area Network (SAN) repeatedly become read-only?

by the editorial team

Release found: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4

Description:

A bug in ext3 causes certain minor I/O errors to be misinterpreted as more severe errors. When ext3 believes the storage is unreliable, it remounts the filesystem in read-only mode to protect against possible corruption. See Bugzilla 213921 for more information (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=213921).

Resolution:
This problem has been resolved in kernel versions 2.6.9-42.0.7.EL and later. Upgrading to this version will fix the problem.
